We are amazed and grateful.
On October 2 and 3, 103 donors rose to the challenge created by The Great Give — a community-wide challenge by the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven — and made a contribution to The Campaign for Common Ground. In all, The Great Give generated $13,770 in support for Common Ground. Every dollar contributed through The Great Give is being matched 1:1 by other Common Ground donors, and the Community Foundation has committed additional matching support to all organizations joining in The Great Give.
Among those who joined in Campaign for Common Ground last week were ten recent Common Ground grads — Terrance, Jennifer, Ratasha, Dahiana, Russell, Cynthia, Rosemary, Smita, Jackie and Keith — all donating to Common Ground for the first time. These alumni responded to a challenge from Mike Stratton and Shel Swanson, who would like to name the bridge that will connect our new and old buildings after our alumni — if they come out in force to support this effort.
Also among those to step forward were family members of Sumner Crosby — one of Common Ground’s founders and most effective champions. A gift from the Susan W. and Sumner McK. Crosby Jr Fund through the Community Foundation and the Great Give honored Sumner’s legacy and made a big difference in our campaign.
These alumni and founders joined parents of our summer campers and high school students, teachers and community program staff, and a whole bunch of generous, committed community members, all working together to help Common Ground change more lives. These supporters are our heroes.
The good news, for those who still want to join the Campaign for Common Ground: We need you. And we still have $75,000 of our $100,000 matching pool left to mobilize — so every contribution you make this this fall will be matched dollar for dollar.
