Come play outside – science says it is good for you! Children who play in nature have reduced anxiety, improved focus, better performance on cognitive tests, and a deeper sense of community and family relationships. Check out the details in this short article from the Children and Nature Network: 7 Science Backed Reasons To Get Your Kids Outside.
One way to do this? Come join us at Common Ground for our monthly Nature Playdate series! Nature Playdates are FREE and open to the public. Children of all ages are welcome with a caregiver and no RSVP is needed. Our Nature Playdates combine the best of unstructured, adventurous playtime with some staff facilitated activity stations. Your child can enjoy playtime in nature while they build a fort, make a mud pie, hang with the chickens, and make friends in the woods. Staff facilitated activity stations change each month. Last month we made nature face paint from charcoal and rocks, enjoyed a campfire, balanced on a slack line, and practiced hammering nails into tree stumps!
Our next Nature Playdate is Sunday, December 30 from 2 – 4 PM. In addition to outdoor play, this month we will be focusing on food for both people and animals! Roast some bannock over the campfire for a warm and delicious snack, and make friends with the goat, sheep, and chickens when you offer them the raw veggie treats we will have on hand.
Be sure to follow Common Ground on Facebook to find out when each month’s Nature Playdate is scheduled, and check our Facebook page for any last minute weather updates on the day of an event (heavy rain will cancel, at least for the winter months!).
