As Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ilene Crawford manages Southern Connecticut State University’s system-level academic program approval processes and campus-level curriculum development, academic program review, and accreditation processes. She oversees budget, strategic planning, and staff development for SCSU’s general education program, First-Year Experience program, Interdisciplinary Studies program, Writing Center, Office of Faculty Development and Office of International Education. Dr. Crawford serves on the Vice President for Academic Affairs Provost’s Council and is one of three institutional leads for SCSU’s Transatlantic Alliance partnership with Liverpool John Moores University (UK) and is managing the development of degree programs jointly delivered by SCSU and LJMU.
Dr. Crawford holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Wisconsin—Milwaukee, a M.A. in English from the State University of New York—Binghamton, and a B.S.S. in Classics magna cum laude from Cornell College. Prior to serving as SCSU’s Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Crawford served as a member of Southern Connecticut State University’s faculty for 15 years, earning promotion to the rank of full Professor. Dr. Crawford is the recipient of two Fulbright fellowships to Vietnam, where she was hosted by the University of Pedagogy and the Institute for Education Research in Ho Chi Minh City. As a Fulbright fellow, she trained English teachers, taught courses in ethnic minority American literature and intercultural communication, delivered talks on higher education reform, and pursued research on national foreign language policies and women’s literacy. Dr. Crawford’s Fulbright work has also taken her to Singapore, Cambodia, the Philippines, and Bangladesh.
