Common Ground was recently awarded a grant in the amount of $7,000 from Connecticut Humanities to support its participation in the CT Summer at the Museum initiative. The program invites Connecticut children ages 18 and under plus one accompanying Connecticut resident adult to visit participating museums free of charge from July 1 through September 4, 2023. Funding for the initiative is provided by the CT General Assembly, with the support of Connecticut Humanities and the Department of Economic and Community Development, Office of the Arts, which also receives support from the federal ARPA.The grant will support Common Ground’s Open Farm Day. Open Farm Day is a free, primarily self-guided educational experience on our urban farm campus. This summer, we will be operating Open Farm Day on Saturdays from 10am-2pm in addition to being open for two special Open Farm Sundays 10am-2pm on August 20th and 27th. Beyond that, we will continue to operate only on Saturdays. This is a free opportunity for visitors to enjoy, explore and learn at our urban farm and environmental education center.
Staff are available to welcome visitors, answer farm questions, and provide guidance about hiking trails adjacent to our campus. Open Farm Day offers a welcoming environment for guests to interact with farm animals (goats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and turkeys), explore an edible children’s garden, observe wetland aquatic life, hike, or even build a fort in the forest! Picnic pavilions, play spaces, and gathering spaces may all be used by individuals, families, and small friend groups. Reservations are not required. If you have any questions regarding Open Farm Day please contact Rebecca Holcombe, Director of Community Programs, at rholcombe@commongroundct.org.
