Stop by Common Ground Saturday, June 23rd and you will find teachers, farmers, childcare providers, backyard gardeners, community members, school garden coordinators and Common Ground staff spread out around campus, learning about herbal tea, gardening with children, trellising, bee keeping, and how to garden intentionally with your community.
“As you may know, Common Ground’s mission is to cultivate habits of healthy living and sustainable environmental practices within a diverse community of children, young people, adults, and families.”
We are spearheading our second of three seasonal -Fall, Spring and Summer – Farm & Garden Institutes piloted last year and inaugurated with our Fall 2017 Farm & Garden Institute. Instead of offering multiple one-off workshops spread out over the course of the year as in previous years, the staff of Common Ground’s Farm and CT Schoolyards Program are joining forces to offer these seasonal day-long opportunities for our community of practitioners to learn together.
As you may know, Common Ground’s mission is to cultivate habits of healthy living and sustainable environmental practices within a diverse community of children, young people, adults, and families. By offering these seasonal Institutes, we aim to bring our community together and provide opportunities for folks to connect across identities and share the wealth of knowledge that exists at Common Ground and in our community to further the learning and growth that happens when gardens and farms are stewarded thoughtfully. We are fortunate to have Jamilah Rasheed join us for our morning session on Community Gardening: Sowing Mindful Actions.
We also believe that food brings people together and this value is embedded in the day. Lunch is included in the ticket price and features fresh produce straight from Common Ground’s Farm as well as a Middle Eastern spread from a local refugee chef connected to us through City Seed’s Sanctuary Kitchen. We are happy to partner with All Our Kin to provide Spanish translation for many of our workshops during the Institute.
