DACA News and Resources

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) has played an important role for 800,000 people brought to the United States as children. DACA is an Executive Order issued by then-President Obama, meant to provide some relief from fears of immediate deportation and an opportunity to work legally, for 800,000 young immigrants, more commonly known as “Dreamers”. Dreamers are also our friends, neighbors and patrons. Dreamers have gone to school here, volunteer in their communities and serve in our armed forces. The Common Ground community was strengthened by DACA.

Unfortunately, President Trump rescinded DACA on September 5th this year, and the last and final deadline for people who were renewing their protection passed on October 5th. In a surprise tweet a few hours after rescinding DACA, President Trump encouraged Congress to legislate the protections of DACA in a Tweet – “Congress now has 6 months to legalize DACA (something the Obama Administration was unable to do). If they can’t, I will revisit this issue!”
