NEW HAVEN >> Common Ground High School, an environment-themed charter school in the city, is using a $75,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure it’s never called peerless again.
“We are hungry for peers at other schools,” said Joel Tolman, the school’s director of impact and engagement and project director for Teaching Our Cities, the yearlong project Common Ground administrators launched as a collaboration with other environmentally-focused schools in the Northeast. “We wanted to keep doing better by our students and wanted to build a capacity for other schools to help their students grow into successful college students and powerful environmental leaders.”
The Teaching Our Cities project is a coalition of six urban public high schools in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and New York with a curricular and pedagogical focus on the environment.
