NEW HAVEN — This weekend, people around the city are going to find out just what The Big Stink is all about.
Here’s a hint: It involves a whole lot of garlic.
Urban farmers across New Haven will plant rows of garlic Saturday as a way of calling attention to the joys of local food. They’ll be introducing the aromatic edible to community gardens and even a city high school.
“It seems like the right plant at the right time,” said Melissa Spear, executive director of Common Ground High School. “Garlic is one of those foods you plant in the fall. It is used in many cuisines and it’s just a good food.”
