Common Ground is seeking a reliable, hands-on, experienced farmer-manager to direct our Agricultural Program and run our urban farm. The Farm Manager & Director of Agricultural Programs will be responsible for managing both the production and education gardens; overseeing volunteers, interns and apprentices working on the farm; and coordinating the distribution of farm products to Common Ground’s various constituencies. Beyond being a farm, Common Ground is a high school and an educational center for the community, making this job opportunity distinct from many typical farm jobs. The Director of Agricultural Programs will play an important role coordinating educational projects involving the farm that will require strong skills in leading, supervising, and communicating with groups of youth and adults. Camp at Common Ground is a fun, rewarding chance to be part of a team that leads children in making memories, having adventures, and learning to care for the earth. Especially seeking specialists in gardening, cooking, farm and domestic animals, recycled and nature arts, and outdoor exploration and adventure skills! Responsibilities for this position are split between administrative work and running the camp Extended Day Program, so each day includes office time and interaction time with campers and staff. Common Ground is hiring a program manager and lead teacher for an after school program for students in grades 6 – 8. The School’s Out! program brings together 30 children from 3 school districts to participate in science and environmental leadership activities that take place on Common Ground’s urban farm, in West Rock Park, and in the greater New Haven community.
