Common Ground is Seeking an Academic Tutor

Common Ground is seeking an Tutor for Academic Supports, starting as soon as possible. 

Common Ground offers a wide variety of high quality after school academic support opportunities for its students on a daily basis, including, intensive tutoring, mentoring, and homework center.  A Tutor of Academic Supports is responsible for overseeing some aspects of Common Ground High School’s after-school academic supports to ensure our struggling learners and our gifted learners receive high quality interventions to demonstrate growth towards mastery in the classroom and on state tests.

Responsibilities of the Tutor are as follows:
  • Connecting school day to after school (by supporting specific academic classes both during and after the school day)
  • After School progress monitoring

Additional responsibilities:

  • Assist with bus stop duty as needed by the After-School Programs Manager.
  • Provide support to the Assistant Director of Student Affairs and Director of School as needed.
  • Attend data team meetings when needed to ensure after school supports efforts align with school day departmental goals and strategies.

The Tutor will report directly to After School Programs Manager

Qualifications
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Experience in the field of education as a paraprofessional, tutor, or certified teacher.
  • Knowledge of Common Core Standards.

No tobacco, controlled drugs or alcohol permitted on campus.

The After-School Academic Supports Coordinator is expected to represent Common Ground High School at all times.  Appropriate workplace attire must be worn: No hats, hoods, durags, bandannas or headbands; no revealing clothing; no tank tops, camisoles, short shorts, pajamas or slippers; no clothing in disrepair or that has messages which reference drugs, alcohol, tobacco, sex, sexual orientation or hate speech that demeans people of a certain race, religion, culture or sexual orientation.

Compensation

Salary: $16.50/hour depending on experience

Time off follows school calendar holidays and vacations, plus eight (3) unpaid personal days.  Employee must show proper documentation of absences beyond the (3) unpaid personal days.

Work Schedule

After-School Tutor of Academic Supports is a part-time position.  Hours are generally Monday – Friday, 12:00-5:00 p.m. Some weekend and night work will be required.

This position is subject to a 30-day probationary period.  A formal review will be conducted at the end of the 30-day period.  The applicant may be offered a permanent full time position based upon performance during the probationary period and the outcome of the review.
